Hearts of Oak are once again domestic double champions, which takes their tally to six.
The Rainbow side had already won the Ghana Premier League this season, ending the club’s long wait for a league title that stretches back to 2009.
The Phobians completed the double with an 8-7 win on penalties in the MTN FA Cup final after the eventful match ended goalless in 120 minutes at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Hearts of Oak who went 12 years without a major trophy have now broken the long-standing jinx with a sixth domestic double.
The team’s astonishing triumph in both the League and the League Cup is their first since 2000, where they won their first and only treble, becoming the only Ghanaian Club to achieve the feat.
Hearts of Oak won four of their six doubles in the late 90s.
The first double in the club’s history came in the 1973.
Six years later the second double followed in 1979 before a third and fourth in 1990 and 1999.
Asante Kotoko is second on the list winning it on two ocassions.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak have won what is their 21st league title and their 11th MTN FA Cup trophy this season.
