Former Asante Kotoko captain Michael Akuffo has revealed that he is set to begin his coaching internship with the Porcupine Warriors as part of his ongoing coaching education.
Speaking about his progress, Akuffo disclosed that he is nearing the completion of his coaching course and sees Kotoko as the ideal environment to gain practical experience.
“I will finish my coaching course in 2026 and will have my internship soon. I’ll start my internship at Kotoko this week. I’ve submitted documents and agreements have been reached. I went there last Friday for my introduction,” he told China-based Ghanaian journalist, Sir Martin at Ghanasportspage.com.
The former midfielder explained that his decision to join Kotoko for the internship was influenced by his desire to learn from coach Karim Zito, who once mentored him during his playing days at WAFA.
“I chose Kotoko because Karim Zito coached me at WAFA. I’d like to learn from him and the other coaches as well,” Akuffo noted.
He further clarified the scope of his internship duties, saying that although he will be actively involved in team activities, there are limitations to his role on match days.
“My internship requires that I’ll partake in all activities, but I’m not allowed at the dugout during match days because I wasn’t registered and I’m only a student,” he explained.
Akuffo’s transition into coaching marks a new chapter in his football journey, as he looks to follow in the footsteps of his former mentors and contribute to Ghanaian football from the touchline.
